A busy two weeks in the GTA 6 news cycle. Pre-orders are live, the edition breakdown is confirmed, 63 official screenshots landed, and Take-Two locked November 19 on their earnings call. Here is the full recap of everything announced.
Pre-Orders Are Live — Standard $79.99, Ultimate $99.99
Rockstar opened pre-orders on June 25, 2026. Standard Edition at $79.99, Ultimate Edition at $99.99. All pre-orders placed before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack. The Ultimate Edition adds the '95 Grotti Cheetah, Dinka Enduro Motorcycle, Crest Kayak, two exclusive vehicle mod shops, and exclusive tattoos and apparel for both protagonists. For the full breakdown of what each edition includes, see our GTA 6 Price Breakdown.
No Physical Disc — Code-in-a-Box Confirmed
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on June 27 that GTA 6 ships as a code-in-a-box only — physical packaging, no disc. This is the highest-profile AAA game to fully abandon physical media at launch. The announcement has generated significant backlash on Reddit and across gaming communities, particularly from collectors and players in regions with limited broadband access. Rockstar has not publicly addressed the controversy.
63 Official Screenshots Dropped Alongside Pre-Orders
Rockstar released 63 new screenshots on June 25 covering all six Leonida regions. Our research team analyzed every frame and identified: new character models not seen in either trailer, previously unseen interior environments, the Vice City Metro tram system actively running passengers, underwater diving sequences in the Leonida Keys, and what appears to be a police drone surveillance mechanic. Full analysis in our Screenshots Breakdown.
Chapter-Based Story Structure Confirmed
An updated product listing published June 26 confirmed GTA 6 uses a chapter-based narrative structure, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2's act system. Additional confirmed details from the listing: protagonist switching is available in both the open world and during missions; certain missions are playable as a duo with Lucia and Jason together; the in-game smartphone includes a functional social media system; NPCs have a streaming and recording system and will film real-time events in-world.
November 19 Release Date: Take-Two Makes It Official
Take-Two Interactive's Q4 FY2026 earnings call reaffirmed November 19, 2026 as the locked launch date. The company's FY2027 revenue guidance of $8.0–8.2 billion is explicitly built around GTA 6 shipping on that date. CEO Strauss Zelnick has stated publicly there will not be a third delay. Industry analysts project 45 million units sold in the first 24 hours — which would make it the largest entertainment launch in history.
What to Watch for Next
Trailer 3 is the biggest pending event. It was widely expected around the June 25 pre-order launch but Rockstar went silent. The next most likely window is around the FIFA World Cup Final on July 19 — historically Rockstar has used major sports broadcasts as trailer drop moments. Trailer 3 is expected to include the first real gameplay footage: RAGE Engine 9 in action, the character switching mechanic, and likely at least one heist sequence.
When it drops, we will cover it in full. Bookmark the news feed or check back at Hub of GTA for live coverage.
