With a month to go, the most-searched GTA 6 questions are practical: when can I download it, how big is it, and what time does it unlock? Here is what is confirmed and what is still guesswork.

Confirmed

  • Launch: Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Pre-load: November 12, 2026. Rockstar says digital pre-order holders "will be able to begin pre-loading on November 12, 2026 to ensure they are able to play at launch."
  • Physical edition: a download code in a box, no disc. It goes on sale November 12 so buyers can pre-load too. Redeem the code as soon as you have it.
  • Price: $79.99 Standard, $99.99 Ultimate. Edition breakdown.

Not Confirmed Yet

  • File size: Rockstar has not published one. Community estimates run from 150 to 200 GB for the base install, and 200 to 250 GB is safer once a day-one patch is included. A 676.7 GB figure circulating online is a hoax. The exact size should appear on the store listings when pre-load opens.
  • Unlock time: no official hour. Store listings currently suggest midnight local time on November 19 in each region. Other sites claim a single global unlock. Neither is confirmed by Rockstar.
  • Pre-load start time: some support pages say local midnight on November 12; Rockstar's press release gives only the date.

Checklist

  1. Free up 250 GB on your console's internal SSD or a supported expansion drive before November 12.
  2. Turn on automatic downloads (PS5: Settings → Saved Data and Game/App Settings → Automatic Updates; Xbox: Settings → General → Power options → Sleep, which keeps updates downloading).
  3. Buying physical? Pick it up from November 12 and redeem the code straight away.
  4. Check your subscription only if you plan to play online. GTA 6 launches as a single-player game, and no online mode has been announced.
  5. Sign up below and we will email you the moment file size and unlock times are confirmed.

What Else Happens Before Launch

Take-Two reports its September-quarter results on Monday, November 9 at 4:30 p.m. ET, the final investor update before release. That quarter ends before launch, so it will contain no GTA 6 sales. Live countdown on our release date page.
