Confirmed Rockstar says GTA 6 needs up to 212 GB depending on your device. It has not said how much each console needs, so the percentages below use the full figure as the worst case.

Usable figures are approximate and vary with the system software version. The Series S figure has the weakest sourcing, so treat it as a ballpark. Kotaku's own estimate for Series S is "closer to half", which fits if that version is smaller than the maximum. Percentages are our calculations.
Series S owners have the least room
With about 364 GB to work with, the Series S could fit GTA 6 and little else. If you keep other large games installed, expect to remove some.
Your options if you are short on space
Delete and re-download. The free option. Move older games to a USB drive first: they can be stored there, even if current-gen games can't be played from it, and copying back is often quicker than downloading again.
PS5: add an M.2 SSD. The PS5 has an internal expansion slot for PCIe Gen4 drives. Sony requires a heatsink, so buy a drive that has one built in or add one.
Xbox: use an expansion card. Series X|S games need the console's internal drive or a dedicated storage expansion card in the rear slot. A standard USB drive won't run them.
Plan for future updates too
Don't size your storage to exactly 212 GB. Consoles often need spare working space to install, and big games usually grow with updates. Rockstar hasn't said anything about future patch sizes.

Will GTA 6 fit on an Xbox Series S?
Yes on an empty console, but it takes up a large share. If the full 212 GB applies, it would use more than half of the roughly 364 GB usually cited as usable. Rockstar has not published a per-console size.
Can I run GTA 6 from an external USB drive?
Current-gen games have to run from internal storage, a PS5 M.2 SSD or an Xbox storage expansion card. A USB drive can hold games, but not run them.
