GTA 6 Day-One Patch and Launch Servers: What We Know

There's no official information yet. Confirmed Rockstar has published a pre-load size of up to 212 GB, but in nothing we've read has it said whether a launch-day update is coming, how large it would be, or what it would fix.

Any exact patch size you see online is a guess, so we're not repeating them.

Why 212 GB may not be the final number

Confirmed Rockstar's figure describes the pre-load. Big games commonly receive updates around launch, so it's sensible to leave some headroom. That's general advice and not a GTA 6 fact. See how each console's storage compares.

Will the servers cope?

Reported Kotaku expects console servers to come under heavy load when so many people download at once. Two things help here:

• The rollout is staggered. Regions unlock at local midnight, starting in New Zealand, which spreads the load.
• Pre-load exists. If the game's already on your console, you're less exposed to launch-night queues.

GTA 6 is listed as single player, and PlayStation's listing has offline play enabled, so a problem with online services may not stop you playing, if the game is already installed and unlocked. But we can't be sure until launch.

Launch night checklist

1. Finish your pre-load well before launch. Fixes if it's stuck.
2. Keep the console in Rest or Sleep mode, online, so any update can arrive.
3. Confirm your unlock time.
4. Mute spoilers. Some regions start up to 19 hours ahead of the last.
