Alongside the Netflix Extended Look, Rockstar gave press the most detailed briefings of the GTA 6 cycle. Two things stood out: a clear statement on monetisation, and a long list of systems from Rockstar's interview with IGN.

No Microtransactions, No Generative AI, at Launch

Speaking to Kinda Funny Games at Rockstar North in Edinburgh, co-studio head Rob Nelson said the single-player game has no real-money purchases and that generative AI was not used in its development. Note the scope: this covers the story game launching November 19. Rockstar declined to discuss monetisation for any future online mode. The ESRB listing still carries an In-Game Purchases notice; see our ratings explainer for what that label does and does not mean.

Criminal Profile: GTA 6's Answer to Honor

The angel icon seen when petting a dog belongs to a Criminal Profile, which tracks what kind of criminal you are. Rockstar says your Criminal Profile and the strength of Jason and Lucia's relationship can shape how the story plays out. Small actions such as feeding animals or putting litter in a bin shift it. How far it goes is still unclear.

The Best of the 35 Details

Police and crime

  • Hollow wanted stars mean police don't know what you look like.
  • If your partner escapes while you are arrested, you are still busted.
  • Drawing a weapon can make someone flee without a shot fired.
  • Shoot limbs to incapacitate or weapons to disarm.
  • Safes: blasting one is faster but can damage the cash; finding the combination keeps more of it.
  • Police can surround a robbery, but some buildings have alternate exits.
  • Some vehicle trackers alert police if you drive too slowly; damaged cars sell for less to fences.

Life in Leonida

  • Safehouses have routines and visitors, similar to the camp in Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • Jason and Lucia text each other: reminders to lock up, notes that one is heading to bed.
  • Trim hair at home; new styles need a barber. Some stores stock exclusive clothes.
  • Personal vehicles have trunks for outfits and weapons.
  • Phones exist physically in the world rather than as a screen overlay. The protagonists avoid posting on Snapmatic, but you can browse and follow.
  • Wildlife can be examined and logged on a checklist. You can pet or scold dogs.

NPCs

  • More varied heights and body shapes, with animations to match.
  • NPCs notice if you watch, follow or eavesdrop, and may confront you, attack or run.
  • Some armed civilians start violence themselves; overheard conversations can trigger activities.

Story

  • Small story choices can have bigger consequences later, and the story is designed to be replayed.
  • Some missions offer multiple routes, or a choice between driving and shooting.
  • Lucia's ankle monitor plays a significant story role.
  • Rockstar says the line between open-world activities and main missions is deliberately blurred. Nelson said the robbery montage represents a big part of what you will do away from the story.
