After nearly three years of trailers and screenshots, Rockstar finally showed GTA 6 being played. An Extended Look premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026, runs 26 minutes 48 seconds, and was captured on a standard PlayStation 5. It reached Rockstar's YouTube channel a few hours later. Below is what it actually showed, split into what Rockstar put on screen and what viewers have inferred.

The Missions Shown

  • A pickup that goes wrong. Jason and Lucia arrive at an apartment building to collect from a dealer. The deal collapses into a police raid and a shootout escape through the building.
  • A getaway job. The pair escort a fugitive contact away from police. Lucia drives while Jason shoots from the passenger seat at pursuing cruisers and a helicopter.
  • Party security. Jason and Lucia are hired to protect a wealthy young host at a high-end party. A crime breaks out mid-event and Lucia fights off attackers.
  • Robberies. A montage of the duo robbing several places, including a diner and small stores.

Characters Who Appeared

Beyond the two protagonists, the reveal featured Boobie (Boobie Ike, the contact for the pickup), a cop called Menendez whom Lucia asks about, and Brian, the drug-running veteran Jason works for. Viewers recognised Brian's voice as Stephen Root's. Profiles for each are in our characters hub, and you can put any two head to head with the character comparison tool.

Systems on Screen

  • Character switching: the footage cuts from Lucia parachuting to Jason on a sofa in a nearby apartment. Switching is instant when the pair are together and takes a few seconds when they are apart.
  • Slow-motion aiming: Jason slows time for headshots, a Dead Eye or Max Payne-style mechanic.
  • Police: officers raid buildings, pursue by road and by air, and you can shoot out tyres to stop cruisers.
  • A morality-style signal: petting a dog triggers an angel icon. Rockstar later explained this ties into a Criminal Profile system (see our preview round-up).
  • Combat: pistols, shotguns and rifles, plus hand-to-hand fights, including Jason wrestling in a makeshift ring.

Activities and Places

Short clips showed scooters, scuba diving, fan boats in the swamps, street racing, a strip club, target shooting, parachuting and Jason drinking with a friend. Locations were Vice City's streets, nightlife and wetlands. Explore the regions in our interactive map.

What Is Not Confirmed

Several widely shared details come from people pausing frames, not from Rockstar: a six-star wanted level, a stamina system and specific HUD meanings. Treat them as likely until the game is out. No PC version, Trailer 3 or GTA Online plans were announced.

Rockstar also gave hands-off previews to press the same day. The biggest takeaway, no microtransactions at launch, is in 35 gameplay details from Rockstar's IGN interview.
