Not in any way that's been announced. Confirmed Both the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store list GTA 6 as a single-player game, so at launch there's no multiplayer to cross-play. We've found no Rockstar announcement of cross-save or cross-progression either.
Crossplay
Crossplay only matters when players meet online, and no online mode has been announced for launch.
Reported For a guide to Rockstar's habits, Dexerto noted that GTA Online keeps players to their own platform: PlayStation with PlayStation, Xbox with Xbox. It's an older article, from 2024, and it's about past games. It doesn't tell us what Rockstar will do next.
So your choice of console doesn't currently cut you off from anything online, because nothing online has been announced. If that matters for you later, pick the console your friends use.
Cross-save and moving progress
No feature has been announced. That leaves open whether your save could ever move between PlayStation and Xbox. Don't count on it.
Purchases also belong to the store you bought from. Moving from PS5 to Xbox would normally mean buying again, along with any edition extras.
Moving within the same console family
Upgrading from a PS5 to a PS5 Pro, or Series S to Series X, is a different case. Consoles have their own tools for moving saves and games within a family, and digital purchases stay on your account. Rockstar hasn't described anything specific for GTA 6, so check how your console handles this on launch.
What about PC?
Confirmed No PC version has been announced. Reports on timing vary. If one arrives, whether saves can carry across is an open question, and it's one of the things to watch for. Take-Two's comments on PC so far are collected in this post.
